Milan, 8 february 2024 – From Duomo square to Duomo square along the most scenic route. The 22nd edition of the Wizz Air Milano Marathon, the great running competition organised by RCS Sports & Events and scheduled for Sunday 7 April, boasts a new prestigious start and finish location, the Cathedral Square, or Piazza del Duomo, which replaces the historical one in Corso Venezia.
The new location was chosen in collaboration with the City of Milan, which has worked for months alongside the organisers to meet the needs of participants, marathon runners and relay runners, and to offer an unforgettable experience to the public.
The new route, ring-shaped as designated in 2015, guarantees speed and ease of running and can combine the expectations of top runners and advanced amateurs, while also offering runners and fans the possibility of admiring an increasingly beautiful city in its combination of historical and modern sites.
Approximately 19 kilometres will stretch through the city centre. The remaining distance will run between QT8, San Siro, Trenno and the Gallaratese area, before returning to the Duomo.
The exchange zones of the relay race, the UniCredit Relay Marathon – involving 105 NPOs associated with the Charity Programme – have already been defined and are all listed on the official website (https://www.milanomarathon.it/staffetta-iscrizione-onp/).
Martina Riva, Councillor for Sport, Tourism and Youth Policies of the Municipality of Milan:
“With the 2024 edition, the Milan Marathon takes another step forward. The new route will allow the event to start and finish in the most representative spot of our city, Piazza del Duomo. The Wizz Air Milano Marathon is a much-awaited race for the running community, with a remarkable international turnout. It is a fast race capable of testing all participants: those who run competitively, those who run for passion, and those who choose the relay to support the activities of the many associations working in the social field. We are confident that the new route will meet participants’ expectations and provide a great experience for the entire city”.
Paolo Bellino, managing director and general manager of RCS Sports & Events:
“The decision to start from Piazza del Duomo, in the very heart of Milan, is bound to give the Wizz Air Milano Marathon an extra boost. The most scenic point of the city will welcome the runners before they start the race, and the route will enhance the beauty of Milan by touching some of its most iconic sights. This is a proud moment for a city that has seen tourism grow over the years to over 8 million visitors, a trend that reflects the increase in foreign runners coming to the event. These people are looking not only for a marathon to attend, but an all-round experience to remember for the rest of their lives”.
